Accelerated Computing Projects

The CSIRO IM&T eResearch program supports a range of accelerated computing activities to assist CSIRO scientists leverage the multi-million dollar investment made by CSIRO in advanced computational science facilities. Accelerated Computing was formerly supported by the Computational and Simulation Sciences Transformational Capability Platform, a strategic initiative funded by CSIRO for transforming data management and computation.

ASC will assist with accelerating priority CSIRO computational science codes by enabling them to run a broad range of high performance and high throughput computing resources from supercomputing on the desktop using high performance general purpose GPU's, distributed computing services, high performance clusters, through to the most advanced computer systems available in Australia and overseas including the CSIRO GPU cluster.

What can we help with?

Some examples of the type of work we can assist with include:

• porting software to multi-core, distributed and/or GPU environments, especially high performance computing facilities
• profiling of software and performance optimisation
• debugging and numerical error analysis
• workshops and training to use HPC facilities and associated technologies

The official deadline for submission closed 1st June 2011 with another expected in December. However we will be taking on Accelerated Computing projects whenever we have capacity to do so, typically as others are completed.
